"He's
just this guy, ya know?"- Douglas Adams
When I was a small child,
I wanted to wear something silly out of the house (I don't recall what,
but this scenario is common enough...fill in your own memories!).
My mother scolded me saying something to the effect of, "You can't go outside
like that!" In standard juvenile fashion I asked, "Why not?"
"Because you look foolish. What will people think?", she answered.
"I don't care what people think. At least not those people who judge
me that quickly." or with words to that effect, I replied.
"If you act THAT way you'll never have any friends!" she told me. "Then
I won't have any friends!"
Well, my mother won at the
time because she was my mother and I was just a kid...and not a belligerent
kid. My attitude has never changed much, however. I share
what I have, but take it or leave it. If you leave it, fine, but
don't say I didn't offer.
